Our Founder Has Been a Matchmaker for 25 Years. Here's Why He's Finally Opening This Up to Other Cities.
In 2001, our co-founder Rob Vargas introduced his first couple. She was a schoolteacher from the North Side. He was a software engineer who’d been on exactly two dates in three years. They’ve been married 22 years. Three kids.
For two and a half decades, Rob has been making introductions like that in Pittsburgh — quietly, personally, one conversation at a time. While the apps got bigger and the algorithms got smarter, he kept doing the same thing: sitting across the table from someone who was genuinely ready for a relationship, understanding what they were looking for, and going to find it.
At The Local Match Co., we believe that’s still the right way to do this. And now, for the first time, we’re opening that model up to other cities.
Why Now?
The apps haven’t solved loneliness. If anything, they’ve industrialized it. Match Group — which owns Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, and Match.com — has seen user counts declining since 2022. People are exhausted from swiping hundreds of times and going on a handful of forgettable dates.
The apps optimized for engagement, not outcomes. A user who finds a partner quickly is a user who cancels their subscription. That’s not a conspiracy — it’s just a business model.
What’s filling the gap? Human matchmakers.
Premium matchmaking has grown quietly but consistently for the last decade. The demand is there. The supply — good matchmakers who’ve built real track records — isn’t. We spent 25 years building that track record in Pittsburgh. Now we’re packaging it for operators who want to do the same thing in their own city.
What the Franchise Model Looks Like
The Local Match Co. gives qualified operators everything they need to launch:
- A proven intake and matching methodology refined over 25 years
- A free member pool system (50–100 local singles) that feeds the paid tier
- Full technology platform for member management and matching workflows
- Three months of intensive launch support
- Ten hours per quarter of direct time with Rob
The economics are real: a solo operator managing 30–40 paid members at $2,500–$5,000 per package earns $75,000–$200,000 in year one.
We offer two investment paths: a $75K standard fee with 5% ongoing royalty, or $50K down with a tiered royalty that drops to 5% after $150K gross revenue. Both include the full platform and launch support.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re not looking for salespeople or passive investors.
The right operator is already the informal matchmaker in their community — the HR director who plays cupid at work, the wedding planner who knows every eligible person in town, the therapist who sees the same patterns and wants to do something about it.
If you’ve ever introduced two people and felt that quiet satisfaction when it worked — you already understand this business. We just give you the infrastructure to do it at scale, with the credibility of a proven methodology behind you.
We’re selective by design. One operator per metro area. One city at a time. That’s how we protect the quality that makes this work.
